Don’t Let Others Price Gouge You for Services

We recently got a call from a potential customer who said she was getting a second bid to program their smart thermostat.

“Can you tell me how much you would charge to come out to our home and program our new smart thermostat?”

“$79,” I said.

There was silence. I thought maybe the call had dropped.

“Hello?”

“But how much would you charge in addition to that to program our new smart thermostat?”

I was confused by the question for a minute and then just repeated myself…”$79 total.”

Then I was told that another company had quoted $89 for one of their reps to simply show up to the home and then $200 more to program the smart thermostat.  I was appalled.

When we tell you that we will come out to your home for $79 and solve any problem we can while we are there — then that’s what we’ll charge. Obviously, if there are parts involved that we have to get or if we have to come out multiple times it’s going to cost more but here’s our promise: if we can fix it when we get there then it’s only going to cost $79.
