5 Questions for Your HVAC Tech

You’re a professional in your field. People come to you with their burning questions hoping you can shed some wisdom on whatever dilemma they’re facing.

For us, it is your HVAC system, that unsung hero that keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Here are five questions we get asked often.

  1. WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT MY HVAC SYSTEM?

Your HVAC system consists of two functions: heating and cooling. The heating system utilizes the furnace to pump warm air into your home in the colder months, while the cooling system uses the air conditioner in the hotter months. Both functions utilize the air handling components and ductwork.

Oh, and a common misconception… Cranking the temperature to extremes will not help the system work any faster, that is unfortunately the law of thermodynamics.

  1. ARE SMART THERMOSTATS WORTH IT?

We’ve all been there. It’s cold in Kansas City and you’re hopping on a quick flight to anywhere warmer than here. You land, sun on your face, and immediately question if you left the heat on. It’s Kansas City, so it was 65 degrees the day you left, but now it’s 10 degrees back home. With a smart thermostat, you can simply view your thermostat from your phone.

A smart thermostat not only provides added flexibility in managing your HVAC system, it also does it more efficiently. Efficiency is something the power company appreciates, so they offer a rebate. Here is a link to the information on Evergy’s site.

  1. HOW DO I IMPROVE MY AIR QUALITY?

The simple answer is, keep it clean. Replacing your filter every three months is a great start. Those filters do a lot to keep the ductwork and major equipment clean. Speaking of ductwork, that is where a lot of the particulates and impurities that impact your indoor air quality live. Having your ductwork cleaned regularly will go a long way to improving the air quality in your home.

  1. WHY DO I NEED A MAINTENANCE PLAN?

Reasonable air quality and equipment life hinge on regular maintenance. The better care you take of your system the better it will perform and the longer it will last. From there it’s a simple cost-benefit analysis. If you’re not one to perform regular maintenance on your system, a maintenance plan with a trusted HVAC professional may prove to be a solid investment in light of utility savings and the increased life of the system. Here’s a look at what we offer.
